In 1859, almost 150 years ago, a group of cricket lovers reportedly met in a pub and devised the first rules for a game we now know and love as "Aussie rules" football.

The pub was Parade Hotel, now called the MCG Hotel, on Wellington Parade in East Melbourne. And the group included the founder of Australian rules football, Tom Wills.

The hotel was also where two of our most treasured sporting clubs - Victoria's first football club, the Melbourne Football Club, and the East Melbourne Cricket Club - were founded and where its players used to drink before and after a game
